Part1. Women and Sex in Islam.

One of the hot topics on social media now is ‘the status of women in Islam’.  Muslims claim that Islam gave rights and honor to women, which is refuted by most every other religion. If one has to understand any topic in Islam it has to be seen in the light of  four things. 1. Quran, 2. The Sunnha of Muhammad (Hadiths). 3. Fatwa (writings of Jurists). 4. Opinions of Muslims scholars and authors.   (Grade: Sahih (Darussalam), Sunan an-Nasa’I 5399, Bk. 49, H. 21). The Quran itself does not answer to all the issues in a Muslim’s life. Therefore the example of Muhammad is also very important. These two are the primary sources that control the life of a Muslim. Herein I have tried to analyze the status of women, primarily basing on the Quran and the Sunnah.

1.Woman is a property (for enjoyment like animals or farm).

A woman’s life is meant to please her husband (Ibn Majah 3:9:1853). A good wife should bring delight to her husband whenever he looks at her, and obey him whenever he commands her to do something.

‘The love of desirable things has been made appealing to people, such as women, children, hoarded heaps of gold and silver, branded fine horses, livestock, and tilled land. These are the pleasures of the life of this world, but with Allah is the best place of return. (Q.3:14). Abdul Haleem

When one is given a woman, servant or cattle, one should seize its forehead and pray to Allah (Ibn  Majah 1918, Bk.9, H.74).

Muhammad said: “This world is but provisions, and there is no provision in this world better than a righteous wife.”(Sahih, Sunan Ibn Majah 1855, Bk.9, H.11).

A woman is the best object of enjoyment of this world: "Life is an object of enjoyment, and there is nothing better in the pleasures of the world than good women."  (Ibn Maja, Nikah 5); Muhammad has frequently referred to woman as an object of enjoyment (mata`, i.e. a piece of luggage) (al-Bukhari, Jihad 72; Abu Dawud, Buyu` 74).

Since women are like property, the Quran does not mention any woman by name, except Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Allah doesn’t even consider them to be named in his “holy Book”.
